Test shots and experimental

LANDSCAPES in colour //

 'block of flats'

'layered branches'

The colours in polaroid always differ and come out with different hues. Here I played with negative space ensuring my subjects were well lit for maximum quality of the photo. I like the nostalgic tone that goes with these photos.

PORTRAITS //

COLOUR //
'Mazza in a frame'

'WILDMAN'

'Ellie and sunflowers ; Double exposure'

Here, I played with double exposing the film which is quite difficult to do on the spectra. After taking one shot I had to hold down the button, shut the camera to turn it off then reopen and shoot again. In the first photo, the exposure worked because the subjects were well lit, however, it's quite hard to know what will show and what won't. In the latter, I used B & W film on a sunny day to double expose and nothing came out so I just used it as a practice for an emulsion lit.

// B & W
'Dad'

Originally, i had wanted to take B & W portraits as it's said that a colour photograph shows what kind of clothes someone is wearing but a B & W photography shows you their soul. Here I've photographed my dad but didn't think that there would be enough of a concept behind 9 portraits and couldn't find models who were free during my limited time scale.

'Heather'

After taking this underexposed portrait of Heather on the LeedsFilmPhoto walk, I emulsion lifted it onto cream card after putting some coloured tissue paper down and allowing to dye the paper and aligning it with the yes. I liked the idea of essentially being able paint a photograph using non traditional methods.

'Ted ; Trial shot'

I was planning on taking a photo of my dog in the final photo series, however had to be really meticulous with the shot as he moves around a lot. This was an initial test shot were I tried to get him to hold still for the camera but he moved suddenly, hence knocking him out of focus.

SCANNING //

'ELLIE & MERREZ'

'Scan with flowers'

Here i played around with scanning things in with the photos to give them more depth. I like how there re subtleties of colour, however, decided not to use this in the end as I thought that it took away from the minimalistic effect I was trying to convey through my images.
